Lapper Tray Designs

Originally invented and created by Ashley Hatcher, and later bought and manufactured by Masterbuilt Mfg., these were a neat, niche product that in its day sold like crazy. The Lapper tray is a product that has a printed film backing on a lap tray with divots and non-slip discs to hold plates and drinking cups in place.

The challenge with designing Lappers, was conceptualization of many designs (literally dozens of them at a time) and then narrowing them down to that handful that was thought would sell the best at retail.

Over the years I created many designs, but my favorite and a best selling one was called the Poppy. Also designed for the Lappers where POP, PDQ’s and displays for retail sales at large box stores.

Most of the designs were created in Adobe Illustrator, while others were made in Photoshop and then vectorized for the final film output to the trays.
